GVHP's Diabetes Care Ranked Tops in Nation (Friday September 30, 2005 @ 12:17PM)

GVHP was ranked first in the nation, out of 281 health plan organizations, in three of seven diabetes care categories by the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA).

The NCQA’s 2005 Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) ranked GVHP’s primary care centered diabetes program as best in the nation for lipid screening, blood sugar level testing and monitoring for kidney disease. GVHP also ranked second nationally in diabetes eye exams. The organization was ranked the best in Michigan in five of seven measures in comprehensive diabetes care.

“We are pleased with the rankings, which are the result of our long-term commitment to improving the quality of diabetes care we provide,” said Ron Palmer, GVHP president. “Diabetes management doesn’t involve new medical care, rather it involves making successful changes in the way medical care is provided. We take pride in our ability and courage to recognize the need to implement changes to systems and processes that will improve outcomes for our patients.”

GVHP’s diabetes care program components included a diabetes registry, monthly health care provider meetings to monitor programs and problem solve and patient screening of psychosocial risk factors during routine visits.
