Michigan health plans continue to work together to bring value to the consumers of health care services. As health plans we feel it is important for members to be informed and educated consumers, particularly in the area of healthcare quality. As a consumer, Grand Valley Health Plan encourages you to review available resources to help you make decisions about the physicians and/or facilities that provide healthcare services to you.

Grand Valley Health Plan is collaborating with other Michigan health plans to provide you with a list of some of the available resources on the Internet to assist you. These Internet websites will provide you with information and other decision making tools regarding health care providers, ratings of hospitals, guides to health insurance, privacy issues and how to report fraud or make a complaint.

In addition to these Internet sites, Grand Valley Health Plan also encourages you to contact our Customer Services staff at (616) 949-2410 for answers to questions you may have about how our health plan evaluates or certifies the quality of the care provided by participating physicians, hospitals and other facilities.

National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA): NCQA is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care. Its primary activities are assessing and reporting on the quality of the nation's managed care plans. Top rated managed healthcare plans receive the highest accreditation of "Excellent".
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ): AHRQ, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the lead Federal agency charged with supporting research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost and broaden access to essential services.
The American Medical Association: Patients will find a wealth of information that will help them lead healthy lives and become an active participant in their health care.
The American Osteopathic Association: This site provides helpful information about osteopathic physicians.
The American Board of Medical Specialties ®: This site provides information about specialist physicians.
Healthfinder ®: Guide to reliable health information. This site is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality: This site is sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services.
My Health Score: This site provides healthcare quality information for consumers including profiles for physicians and hospitals.
