Recommended Guidelines
Initial Visit To occur within 6-12 weeks of pregnancy and include a complete medical and OB history, initial prenatal blood test, urine test, and pap smear. Initial screening for nutritional risk, genetic risk, infection, and a abuse assessment.
Pregnancy Education Education about prenatal nutrition and avoidance of Drugs/Smoking.
Ongoing Clinical Screenings Height, weight, blood pressure, and urinalysis to be performed at every visit. Fetal heart tones and fundus height to be performed at 10-12 weeks and every other office visit thereafter.
Flu Shot After 14 weeks of gestation and if pregnant during the flu season.
Alpha Fetal Protein Screening To be performed between 15-20 weeks of gestation.
Obstetrical Ultrasound To be performed between 18-20 weeks of gestation.
Gestational Diabetes Screening To be performed between 24-28 weeks of gestation.
Anemia Screening To be performed between 24-28 weeks of gestation.
Child Birth Classes To begin at 28 weeks of gestation.
Breast Feeding Classes To be performed between 28-36 weeks of gestation.
Rhogan Injection To be performed at 28-30 weeks of gestation if necessary (for Rh negative mothers only).
